From bottom of the layer palette click on "Add vector mask". Press D to reset the foreground and background colors to default B&W. Using gradient tool create a Black to White gradient in linear mode to create a soft blend.

Select Brush tool. Choose a smoke brush.

Creat a new layer and apply to create some smoky effect.

Unhide the background layer that we created in an earlier step.

Goto adjustment layer >hue/saturation and apply setting as shown.

Goto>filter>sharpen>unsharp mask and apply setting as shown.

From layer palette change the layer mode to Lighten. Scale it down, move the layer below the cross layer in layer order in layer palette.

The wallpaper is ready. You can use it to decorate your desktop or use it for christmas graphics like post card, posters etc too.
