| Drawing a chinese fan |
Page 1 of 2 In this tutorial we'll draw a chinese fan in illustrator using simple but effective techniques. Here's the final output.
Lets start by creating a circle. Use ellipse tool. Press Shift and draw a circle as shown below.
Select the circle. Press Ctrl+R to show rulers. With cicle selected create a horizontal and vertical guide to align with the center of the circle. This is just to make sure we have the center of the circle always with us, even without selecting circle. In next few steps you will understand why we did this right in beginning.
Select the circle. Press Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+F to paste in place. Scale up the duplicated circle as shown below. Lock this layer in layer palette and create a new layer for further work.
Using pen tool, create a shape as shown below.
Select reflect tool.
Press alt key and click on the edge of this shape as shown below.
Select vertical and press Copy. This will create a flipped copy of the shape.
Select both the shapes. Select rotate tool. Press alt key and click on the cross section of the guides we created in the beginning.
Enter 10 degrees in angle and press copy. Note: your angle value can be different depending upon the size of the circles you choose. Just see that the duplicate shape touches the edge of the initial shape.
Without loosing the selection press Ctrl+D a number of times to create pattern as shown below.
Select these shapes together. Select rotate tool. Click on the cross section of the guides we created in the beginning. Rotate the shapes as shown below.
