| Drawing a chinese fan |

In this tutorial we'll draw a chinese fan in illustrator using simple but effective techniques. Here's the final output.
Lets start by creating a circle. Use ellipse
Select the circle. Press Ctrl+R to show rulers. With cicle selected create a horizontal and
Select the circle. Press Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+F to paste in place. Scale up the duplicated circle as shown below. Lock this layer in layer palette and create a new layer for further work.
Using pen
Select reflect
Press alt key and click on the edge of this shape as shown below.
Select
Select both the shapes. Select rotate
Enter 10 degrees in angle and press copy. Note: your angle value can be different depending upon the size of the circles you choose. Just see that the duplicate shape touches the edge of the initial shape.
Without loosing the selection press Ctrl+D a number of times to create pattern as shown below.
Select these shapes together. Select rotate
From the center of the circles create a shape a shown below.
As did in steps above create multiple duplicates.
Create a circle.
Using pen
Select both the shapes and from Object menu select create>>clipping mask.
Using reflect
The drawing of the fan is done. If everything goes right it should look like this.
Lets color the fan now. Select one side of the shapes and color them light bluish gray and other side with a darker version of it.
Fill rest of the shapes with a reddish brown color.
From window menu select Symbol Libraries>>Flowers.
Choose Hibiscus and drag it to the drawing area. You may want to rotate it a bit.
From layer palette change layer mode to color burn. This will have the effect of flower being printed on the chinese fan.
Create a few duplicates of flower and place as shown below.
From window menu select Symbol Libraries>>Nature. Choose Grass and drag it to the drawing area.
From layer palette change layer mode to color burn. Here's the final chinese fan. Have fun.
